Onchan MHK starts efforts to reform LegCo election process

'Great opportunity' to introduce 'totally different' system says Julie Edge

An Onchan MHK is making efforts to reform how members of the Legislative Council are elected.

Julie Edge will take a motion to Tynwald in April which suggests a number of changes.

They include that prospective candidates are supported by 20 members of the public and ensuring current MLCs step down from their roles before seeking re-election.

Ms Edge told Manx Radio she believes radical change is needed.

In the House of Keys today (4 March) four members of the Legislative Council will be elected to serve a five-year term to 2030.

The 15 people vying for the four seats are:
