Onchan MHK says residents need assurance ahead of doctors strike

Julie Edge calls for forensic review of Manx Care spending

An Onchan MHK is calling for a 'complete forensic review' of Manx Care and its spending.

Speaking on Manx Radio's Breakfast this morning (16 January) Julie Edge says she's never known the Island to take so long when negotiating with doctors - as they provide a vital service here for residents.

Members of the British Medical Association plan to walk out for two-days next week as part of an ongoing row over pay.

Ms Edge argues the health minister should not have been involved in the negotiations at a time when the Manx public needs reassurance:

Ms Edge also believes there needs to be changes in the structure of how the health body's board is run, adding a forensic review is 'long overdue':

Manx Care says most non-urgent services will be paused whilst doctors strike on 22 and 23 January.

The health body adds it wants to reassure the community that ‘operational planning’ is underway to minimise the impact on patients and service users.

The Department of Health and Social Care says it 'respects the right of the workforce to take action'.
