October sentence for man who punched stranger in car park

20-year-old admits assault ABH

A Douglas man will be sentenced later this year after punching a stranger in a car park.

Alex Egan, of Strang Close, appeared at Douglas Courthouse where he admitted assaulting the man and causing actual bodily harm.

The 20-year-old approached him in Shaw’s Brow just before 1.30am on 7 July along with four other people.

When the group’s request for a lift was declined Egan became aggressive and grabbed the man by the throat, pushing him into a concrete post and punching him in the face.

The man suffered a broken tooth and a swollen eye; Egan handed himself in to police the next day.

A social enquiry report has been requested before Egan is sentenced on 3 October; he’s been bailed until that date.
