NSC raceway 'perfect' for Sir Mark Cavendish homecoming

'We won't see anything like this again for a long time', says Tilbury

An important figure in the career of Sir Mark Cavendish says holding his homecoming at the NSC raceway today (16 August) is the 'perfect' setting to celebrate the cyclist's achievements.

A lap of honour for the 'Manx Missile' will take place from 1pm; children have been invited to ride along with him and spectators encouraged to show their support.

Dot Tilbury played a key role in Cavendish's early years on two wheels and is continuing to help develop the next crop of young riders on Island.

She’s urging people to attend what she believes will be a once-in-a-generation occasion:

Children wishing to take part in the bike ride alongside Sir Mark are asked to be at the NSC raceway for 12.45pm - they must be able to ride their bike on two wheels without stabilisers or balancers and must wear a helmet

Spectators for the lap of honour are asked to start arriving at the NSC from 12pm and be in place around the raceway from 12.45pm.

Parking at, and around, the NSC will be 'extremely limited' and where possible those attending should consider travelling to the venue by foot, bicycle or public transport.

The NSC pool will also be closed today between 12pm and 2.30pm.
