Noble's Hospital to light up pink in support of organ donation awareness

Organ Donation Week to be marked by buildings turning pink

The entrance to Noble's Hospital will be turning pink this week as part of efforts to raise awareness about organ donation.

The Human Tissue and Organ Donation Act – also known as Daniel’s Law – will soon come into effect on the Isle of Man, introducing an opt-out system.

Anyone over the age of 18 who hasn't opted out will be presumed to have consented to organ donation upon their death.

It's estimated that around 7,000 people across the UK and British Isles are currently waiting for a transplant, with individuals dying every day due to a shortage of donors.

Anthony Clarkson, Director of Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation for NHS Blood and Transplant said: “It’s brilliant of Manx Care to show its support for Organ Donation Week in the year of the NHS Organ Donor Register’s 30th birthday.

"The modern organ donor card is pink and it certainly gets conversations going.

“We need people in the Isle of Man to add their name and decision to the NHS Organ Donor Register. This could be the difference between life and death for someone else.”

Manx Care is encouraging residents to make their own decisions HERE.
