Joint report from DoI and DESC published into affordability of regional pools

A report looking into the future of the Island's swimming pools has been published, which has recommended the closure of the Southern Swimming Pool.

It outlines the financial situation of the current facilities.

Jointly presented by the departments of Infrastructure and Education, Sport and Culture, it looks at the affordability of making the regional pools part of regional sports hubs.

It says there is "no scenario" which would identify the savings necessary to operate four public pools within DESC's existing budget.

The report claims £11 million would be needed over 30 years to make sure all of the pools are operational.

It also suggests the southern pool would need a £1 million investment just to keep running, and that wouldn't include any improvements to the facility.
