No routine GP appointments on select days in April

Eleven GP practices will shut across three days for staff training

Routine GP appointments will not be available on a number of afternoons in April (2, 3 and 9) to allow for training sessions to take place.

The education sessions will take place from 12:30pm on each of the three days.

However, all practices will remain open as usual to make any future routine appointments, request test results or order repeat prescriptions.

On 2 April, GPs from Peel, Palatine and Hailwood will be attending their service development session.

On 3 April, GPs from Finch Hill, Kensington, Snaefell, Village Walk and Laxey will be attending theirs.

And on 9 April, it will be the turn of GPs from Ballasalla, Castletown and the Southern group practice.

A GP service will be on-call to provide urgent care for patients registered at the various practices each day, operating from 12:30pm - 6pm.

Manx Care is reminding patients that it is not a drop-in service, and if they need to speak to a doctor about any urgent issues, they should phone their GP Practice who will triage the call, and, where appropriate, provide access to the GPs on call for the afternoon.

The Manx Emergency Doctor Service (MEDS) will operate as usual from 6pm.

Anyone who thinks they have a life-threatening emergency should phone 999 and ask for an ambulance.

Patients are also being signposted towards the health and care setting that is 'appropriate for their condition'.

For example, the Minor Injuries and Illnesses Unit in Ramsey can treat a broad range of conditions, Community Pharmacies operate the Minor Ailments Scheme, and some eye conditions can be treated under the Minor Eye Conditions Scheme (MECS) which is currently provided by Specsavers.

For dental emergencies, patients can access their own dentist or, if you do not have a dentist currently, you can contact the Community Dental Service.

There are also a number of options for mental health support.

More information on signposting is available HERE.
