No evidence of public's full support for assisted dying laws, says Cannan

Ayre and Michael MHK wants referendum on Private Members Bill

The chief minister says he's seen no evidence of a 'whole public mandate' in support of assisted dying laws on the Island.

It's as the House of Keys meets once again today, with one of the items for consideration being whether or not there should be a referendum on the matter.

Alfred Cannan, in his role as Ayre and Michael MHK, is calling for one to take place:

 

Sixty-five per cent of respondents to a public consultation, carried out between December 2022 to January 2023, strongly supported a law change, whilst 8 per cent strongly opposed it.
