Mountain Road and Sloc remain shut as snow hits the hills

Mountain Road covered in snow - March 2023

Most other roads 'clear or passable with care' according to police

The Mountain Road and the Sloc remain shut this morning (5 January) due to conditions caused by snowfall overnight.

A weather warning for snow remains in place, but it has now been downgraded from amber to yellow, 'as risk of significant snow at lower levels has now passed'.

That warning is not currently set to lift until 3am tomorrow morning (6 January).

OTHER ROUTES

The Isle of Man Constabulary says 'arterial routes and most roads across the island are clear or passable with care thanks largely to pre-treatment by the Department of Infrastructure'.

Officers also say that the DOI is 'currently working to assess and clear the mountain road with a view to re-opening'.

Meanwhile, Civil Defence Isle of Man has confirmed its teams were out supporting the DOI in the closure of the Mountain Road and the Sloc overnight, and assisted care staff, Manx Care staff and other critical staff to work this morning.

Drivers are being asked to drive to the conditions, as 'there is snow on the western side of the Island and over high ground'.

Today's bus schedule is running as advertised, and the ferries are unaffected.

FLIGHTS

There has however been disruption at the Isle of Man Airport, due to runway closures in the UK.

Whilst these have now been resolved, there may be delays throughout the day - passengers are asked to check with their airline directly.
