Southern MHK says debate will take place next week

Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Tim Glover has tabled a motion of no-confidence against Chief Minister Alfred Cannan.

It will take place during next week's sitting of the House of Keys.

Manx Radio has seen an email sent to other members to allow them 'more time to prepare ahead of the order paper being published'.

Mr Glover told them that although he could have used standing orders to force this at tomorrow's sitting (22 October), he is 'aware there are ministers absent and it would have been a straight vote'.

By delaying until next Tuesday, a debate will take place.

The motion for 29 October has been confirmed by the Clerk of Tynwald's office and says: "The House has no confidence in Alfred Cannan MHK as Chief Minister."

In a statement to Manx Radio, the Chief Minister says he is 'getting on with the job of addressing the issues that matter to the Manx public'.

Mr Cannan said: "There is much to resolve, not least the delivery of healthcare and our financial sustainability.

"I am focused on the job. My diary is not changing and together with colleagues across Government we have a busy week ahead."

Manx Radio's Lewis Foster caught up with Mr Glover to find out his motivations:
