MHK wants reform to how healthcare professionals are engaged by Manx Care

Thomas calling for political member to shadow health body's board

Two MHKs are calling for a member of Tynwald to be appointed to shadow the Manx Care board as a way of reforming healthcare.

Douglas Central’s Chris Thomas has tabled a four-part motion for the October sitting of the court.

He wants the Council of Ministers to:

  • Reform how the healthcare professions are engaged to secure continuous improvement of healthcare
  • Ensure that all executive members of Manx Care are appointed in accordance with the Public Services Commission Act 2015
  • Nominate a member of Tynwald to shadow the Manx Care board for election by Tynwald at the November 2024 sitting of Tynwald
  • Bring principles for drafting a bill to amend or replace existing legislation to clarify the governance and division of responsibilities of the Department of Health and Social Care and Manx Care for debate at the January 2025 sitting of Tynwald.

Mr Thomas' motion will be seconded by Garff MHK Andrew Smith:

You can find out more HERE; Tynwald will sit between 15 and 17 October.

Manx Radio has invited Manx Care to comment.
