Younger children prioritised for liquid antibiotics
Doctors and pharmacists across the Island are keeping liquid forms of antibiotics for younger children because of a shortage of the medicine across the UK.
Older children are being encouraged to use tablets or capsules.
Public Health has released a letter with advice of how to teach your child to swallow pills.
It suggests practicing first with tic tacs or sweets such as jelly tots.
1: Find a comfortable place
2: Choose your favourite drink, preferably in a sports bottle
3: Start with the smallest sweet, let them choose one for you too!
4: Place the sweet in the middle of your tongue. Don’t throw your head back.
5: Seal lips around the top of the bottle and take three gulps without putting the bottle down
6: Try another sweet following the same steps
A video has also been released for guidance, you can watch it here.
