But charity has concerns around enforcing legislation
The ManxSPCA says it fully supports the principles of a new code of practice regarding dog ownership which is coming into force in Scotland.
The Welfare of Dogs Bill aims to promote responsible ownership in the country.
It's expected to become law within 12 months.
It would require prospective owners, and sellers, to sign a certificate outlining that both sides understand the commitment involved in owning a canine.
Purchasers would also be required to consider a checklist to assess whether they have the time, space and money needed.
