Hairpin Woodland Park receives funding from the Rotary Cub of Douglas
The Manx Wildlife Trust (MWT) has officially opened the Hairpin Woodland Park in Ramsey (HWP), describing it as its flagship public engagement site.
It's a long-term initiative by the charity to expand woodland cover between Ramsey and Sulby, and aims to provide a space where people can connect with nature.
It spans 55 acres at Claughbane, and features native woodland, wetlands, meadows and a forest garden to showcase sustainability, wildlife, and carbon capture efforts.
The Lieutenant Governor Sir John Lorimer and Lady Lorimer were among the guests at the opening ceremony, alongside representatives from the Rotary Club of Douglas which has helped to fund the project.
The Rotary Club is celebrating its centenary this year, and has played a pivotal role by raising funds for infrastructure development and the planting of over ten thousand trees across the wider site, extending southwards to Glen Auldyn.
Chair Charles Fargher, says it highlights the club's commitment to community service and investment in projects with long-lasting benefits for the Isle of Man.
Leigh Morris, CEO of MWT, says he's excited about the project's potential to engage both residents and visitors, emphasising its significance for biodiversity and carbon offsetting within the UNESCO Biosphere.
MWT Hairpin Woodland Park, already accessible to the public, will undergo further development over the coming year, with new facilities and informational resources planned.
