Board aiming to install solar and wind projects within government's estate
Plans on funding more renewable energy for the Isle of Man are due to be presented to government ministers in the coming weeks.
Manx Utilities has been carrying out a study to identify how to develop renewables at the lowest cost to the taxpayer.
It includes a review of finance options for solar sites and will be passed to the Council of Ministers in the early part of this year.
In a Tynwald written answer, chairman of Manx Utilities, Tim Johnston says it's imperative to commence work as soon as possible to introduce more green energy.
Work is also underway to identify suitable sites owned by government, such as buildings and car parks, to install wind and solar projects.
The board is aiming to deploy onshore renewables by 2026, while a new subsea interconnector is due by 2030.
