Manx dentist seeing more tooth decay

Brush twice a day to keep away decay

Tooth decay among nine to five year olds on the Island is increasing, according to one dental practitioner.

Dr Mark Hepworth of Abbey Dental has noted a rise in the tooth problem after referring more new patients to specialist services for treatment.

He attributes the frequency rather than volume of sugar in children's diets which lead to poor oral health.

Latest figures from Public Health Isle of Man, show nearly 1 in 3 five year olds have suffered from tooth decay.

Dr Hepworth says the mantra of brushing twice-a-day, is 'non negotiable'.
