Manx Care cancels meeting for Cummal Mooar residents

Staff were due to meet with residents and their families on 23 August

Manx Care has cancelled a meeting for residents of a residential home in Ramsey which it’s earmarked for closure.

Those living at Cummal Mooar, and their families, had been told staff from the healthcare body would meet with them on 23 August.

That’s almost a month after sending them a letter stating the home would be closed within the next two years and before a replacement facility is built.

You can find out more HERE.

That announcement was contradicted by the Health and Social Care Minister Lawrie Hooper who said his department’s position is that it should stay open until something else is constructed.

In the letter sent on behalf of David Hamilton – the interim executive director of social care, integrated mental health and safeguarding – residents have been told ‘further clarity is needed’ before a meeting can take place.

“Unfortunately – as is common at this time of year – some of the people who can provide that clarity are on, or will be on, annual leave over the coming weeks.

“We would like to be in a position when we do meet with you to be able to communicate a clearer outcome for the future and answer any questions or concerns that you have with a degree of confidence.”

The sender apologises for the ‘uncertainty or anxiety’ caused by the decision not to meet.

The letter adds: “In the meantime current arrangements will continue and there will be no change to the running of Cummal Mooar during this period of further discussion.”

Vicki Hewison, whose mother resides at Cummal Mooar, is leading the campaign to keep it open:

Manx Radio has, once again, invited Manx Care for a response – nothing has been received.
