Manx Care and Manx Heart Foundation in new collaboration

Charity agreed funding for CCU Nurse Grace O’Hagan

It's hoped a new collaboration between Manx Care and the Manx Heart Foundation will improve patient outcomes going forward.

In recent years the charity has committed over half a million pounds on equipment in support of the health body, but under a new initiative the focus has switched to the people delivering cardiac services, using an apprenticeship model.

Their first venture was for Manx Care's Coronary Care Unit nurse, Erica Bradley, who's been supported in completing her postgraduate diploma in Cardiology.

There are currently two CCU nurses who were supported in taking the Society for Cardiological Science & Technology Diploma in ECG interpretation - vital for their role, treating and testing patients.

Following this, the most recent project has been another training opportunity, this time for the Heart Failure Service.

The service is designed for people with impaired heart function, which results in symptoms of breathlessness and fluid retention. CCU nurse, Grace O'Hagan has obtained relevant qualifications at Keele University and is now working within the Heart Failure service.
