Man broke restraining order hours after leaving prison

59-year-old jailed for 10 weeks

A Douglas man has been jailed after breaching a restraining order almost immediately after being released from prison.

Darren Michael Bardsley, of no fixed address, went to his former marital home twice on 8 January to speak to his wife.

It put him in breach of the order, which had been put in place in November, which banned him from contacting her.

Bardsley was arrested by police on 16 January, at The Sefton Express, following an appeal for the public's help to locate him.

During sentencing at Douglas Courthouse the 59-year-old’s advocate told Magistrates his client had been in a ‘catch-22’ situation after being left homeless.

"There’s some desperation here from a man who found himself on the street with effectively nothing," he added.

Sentencing him to 10 weeks in custody Magistrates told Bardsley they hoped the sentence imposed would offer him a ‘period of reflection’.
