Only 89 in mainstream education with reduced timetable
The majority of children on the special educational needs register are in full time mainstream education with a normal timetable.
New figures have been published by the Education Department following a written question from Douglas North MHK David Ashford.
The answer shows that at the end of September (30 September 2024), there were 2,789 kids on the register.
It is worth noting that this number shifts throughout the school year 'as pupil assessments and reviews occur regularly'.
Of the 2,789 listed, 2012 had no modifications in place for their school day.
Eighty-nine are in mainstream school on a reduced timetable, 466 have modified timetables and 266 are not in mainstream education.
Some students have both modified and reduced lesson plans and are therefore included twice.
