Dog attacks on livestock can cause severe injuries, stress, and even death
The Manx National Farmers’ Union has issued a strong reminder to dog owners about the importance of keeping their pets under control after a loose dog attacked sheep in Maughold.
The incident occurred in fields along the tram line near the old power station and Ballaglass Glen.
The MNFU reported that the sheep sustained injuries from what appears to be a large dog, as the bite marks were found high up on the animals.
The union has urged anyone with information to contact Ramsey Police Station.
The warning comes as MNFU members recently spent a morning educating schoolchildren about the Countryside Code.
The union emphasised that ensuring dogs are kept on leads near livestock is not only a matter of responsible pet ownership but also an animal welfare issue and a legal requirement.
The MNFU reiterated that owners must take responsibility to prevent such incidents from occurring.
