Landslide vote in favour of allowing Syrian refugees on Island in student debate

MHKs participate in St Ninians debate club

We cannot compare what we consider to be hardships to what Syrian refugees have been through, according to a local student.

This was from Sasha Osbourne in response to Minister for Health and Social Care David Ashford claiming allowing victims of the crises to live here could negatively impact their mental health- making them feel isolated.

He went on to add that with tight medical provisions on Island, refugees would have to travel to the UK for medical treatment which would create more stress.

Miss Osbourne who is one of the heads of the St Ninians debate club, says this isn't an unbreakable barrier:

The outcome saw a landslide vote in favour of the motion.
