King William's College receives glowing inspection report

Review highlights academic, pastoral and community strengths

King William’s College and The Buchan School have been praised in a recent British Schools Overseas inspection.

It was carried out by the Independent Schools Inspectorate in November last year.

The report highlights academic excellence as well as:

  • Nearly 50 percent of GCSE and IGCSE results were graded A*-A/9-7 while International Baccalaureate scores exceeded global averages
  • Pupils’ personal development was rated as excellent with students demonstrating resilience, independence, and a strong sense of social responsibility.
  • Inspectors commended the recent upgrades to boarding facilities and the 'vibrant' international community, fostering cultural diversity and mutual respect
  • The school was recognised for its robust safeguarding measures including staff training and comprehensive support for students
  • A well-rounded curriculum, from junior outdoor learning to senior IB lessons, was praised for encouraging critical thinking and collaboration
  • Initiatives such as toy collections for Ukrainian children and beach cleaning projects highlighted the school’s focus on empathy and community service

Chair of Governors Peter Clucas said: "This is a particularly pleasing report as it recognises the dedication and professionalism of our teachers and staff in all aspects of school life.

"The report endorses our vision for the future as we remain focused on providing the very best opportunities for our students."

Principal Damian Henderson told Manx Radio he believes inspections play a crucial role in guiding decision-makers on the future direction of the school:
