Keys out for Christmas: Who voted to skip the final round of questions?

15 MHKs voted against continuing question paper

An Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK says a decision to leave House of Keys questions unanswered today is 'certainly not a great message'.

More than half of MHKs vetoed continuing with the question paper during the sitting.

Today marked the last sitting of the year for politicians to represent their constituents' concerns, and interests, by putting questions directly to the Council of Ministers.

Only eight of the 18 questions were answered before the allotted one hour for questions was completed.

After this an MHK can propose to continue - this is then put to a vote.

During the vote Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper branded his fellow colleagues as "part-timers".

Meanwhile Onchan MHK Rob Callister said he voted against continuing because the order paper "included a significant amount of legislation which deserves thorough consideration."

MHKs that voted against continuing questions:

  • Treasury Minister Alex Allinson
  • Cabinet Office Minister David Ashford
  • Environment, Food and Agriculture Minister Clare Barber
  • Education, Sport and Culture Minister Daphne Caine
  • Onchan MHK Rob Callister
  • Chief Minister Alfred Cannan
  • Health and Social Care Minister Claire Christian
  • Minister without Portfolio Tim Crookall
  • Infrastructure Minister Michelle Haywood
  • Enterprise Minister Tim Johnston
  • Middle MHK Stu Peters
  • Home Affairs Minister Jane Poole-Wilson
  • Garff MHK Andrew Smith
  • Speaker of the House of Keys Juan Watterson
  • Douglas North MHK John Wannenburgh

MHKs that voted in favour on continuing questions:

  • Douglas Central MHK Ann Corlett
  • Onchan MHK Julie Edge
  • Douglas East MHK Joney Faragher
  • Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Tim Glover
  • Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper
  • Douglas South MHK Sarah Maltby
  • Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse
  • Douglas Central MHK Chris Thomas

Responding to the decision afterwards, on social media, Jason Moorhouse wrote: "Where else can you vote not to complete a key task and go home early?".
