The local authority will also be buying new Christmas lights for its tree

Dog byelaws won’t be introduced just yet in Jurby following a decision made at the commissioners meeting last night.

The commissioners agreed to focus on education instead of committing to implementing dog byelaws for the time being.

The clerk said having the byelaws would come at a cost to the local authority for the installation of signs and the potential of needing a warden.

He also confirmed after sending the locations where dogs would be banned to the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture, they came back with further additions.

However, the board agreed to restrict the byelaws to the play area in the future, and instead use the website and social media to inform residents and signpost where to report incidents.

An update was also provided to the board about the new play area.

The commissioners are currently waiting for three different schemes to be drawn up along with costings.

Vice Chair Lee Quaggin said fundraising is being carried out by the local authority and once the final prices and schemes come through to the board, they will have a ‘better idea’ of how much money is needed.

The clerk said he was ‘hopeful’ the commissioners would know before Christmas how much fundraising would be needed to complete the project.

Also on the agenda was an update about smiley face speed awareness signs for the parish.

The Department of Infrastructure has also installed cables outside one of the estates which the board agreed were in the wrong place as drivers will be going slower.

However, Mr Quaggin said he will send a list of locations to the clerk, where the smiley faces should go up.

The board agreed to ask the DOI to move the cables somewhere else.

And new lights for the parish’s Christmas tree will be purchased for £300.

The tree is 15 feet tall and the commissioners agreed to buy brightly coloured lights to replace the existing white and blue ones.

Jurby Commissioners will next meet on Monday 2 December.
