Disease reported in Germany
Government says it will ensure it has all relevant safeguarding measures in place following an outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Germany.
It was notified to the World Organisation for Animal Health last week following the deaths of three animals in a herd of 14 buffalo in Brandenburg.
Further testing is now underway to characterise the virus.
The UK Government is tracing any consignments that are en route, or which have arrived in Britain, within the tracing window.
No animals or products derived from animals were exported from the affected holding itself.
The import of foot and mouth disease susceptible animals and relevant animal products to Britain and the Isle of Man will be restricted from the whole of Germany.
The Isle of Man has not imported any animals that can contract the disease since September 2024 and no import licences have been given out.
Chief Veterinary Officer Amy Beckett has told Manx Radio she will not issue any ‘in the very short term’ until more details have emerged about this outbreak.
She added: “I will monitor the situation and keep in contact with the UK government to ensure we have all relevant safeguarding measures in place.”
