Investigation underway after wrong man released from custody at courthouse

Warrant without bail issued to bring him back to court

An investigation is underway after a case of mistaken identity led to a man being wrongly released from custody ahead of a court appearance.

Magistrates were told the individual had been brought to Douglas Courthouse this morning, but an error meant he was told he could go.

Applying for a warrant without bail, the Attorney General's Chambers said two men with the same first name were in custody, and an administrative worker told the wrong one he was free to go.

Magistrates granted the application for a warrant.
