'Ideal time' to match derelict sites in Ramsey with investors

Northern Chamber of Commerce welcomes efforts on brownfield redevelopment

The Northern Chamber of Commerce says it's an ‘ideal time’ to match derelict sites in Ramsey with investors.

It comes after efforts to kickstart redevelopment in the town were highlighted by the treasury minister, and area's MHK, Alex Allinson.

He confirmed various local bodies would be brought together with particular emphasis on brownfield sites by the harbour.

In response, Northern Chamber of Commerce Chairman Keith Dalrymple said: "The attendance and input of the four northern MHKs at recent chamber meetings is much appreciated.

"The need and potential have long been known and it is pleasing to have this acknowledgement at the highest level of government.

"The revitalisation of the quayside and harbour, along with improvements to flood defences, will significantly benefit Ramsey.

"Given the numerous derelict buildings now is an ideal time to match sites with investors and developers to transform them back into usable spaces."

A steering group is now being formed that will bring individuals with ‘diverse and relevant experience’ to start gathering information and perspectives for a ‘strategic masterplan’.
