Hopes to 'restructure' Manx charity Live at Home

Ten redundancies confirmed as organisation set to cease services

The chair of Live at Home says it's hoped the Manx charity can be 'restructured' as it looks to cease its services at the end of the month.

The organisation has helped residents on the Island live independently in their own homes for almost 27 years.

A letter to members says, due to financial reasons, services will stop on 28 August.

David Gawne MBE says the ability to raise funds has reduced since Covid, whilst demand on services has increased.

'This is indeed a very sad day for us.' - David Gawne MBE

He told Manx Radio why the charity has announced this move now:

When Live at Home first started in 1998 its services covered St John's and Foxdale offering lunch clubs and outings to residents who would otherwise struggle to socialise and get out of the house.

Since then services have expanded, and are now said to have become 'unsustainable' due to the current economic climate.

Mr Gawne confirmed to Manx Radio that the move to stop services will lead to ten redundancies.

All staff members will received full redundancy pay and their remaining holiday allowances and wages, he says.

With enough left over after outstanding payments are met, Mr Gawne says the organisation hopes to be able to restructure - returning to a 'core service' model and bringing annual running costs down to a more sustainable £140,000.
