Hope Knockaloe sewerage plans will be dropped

Charity bids to revamp schoolrooms

A charity is hopeful government won't sink plans for a Internment Visitors Centre at Knockaloe by building a sewerage treatment plant on the site.

Work starts today (Monday) on revamping the nearby Patrick schoolrooms into the new centre by The Knockaloe Internment Camp Charity.

It has plans to create an entire visitor experience centred around what was the largest camp of its kind during the First World War.

However, the Manx Utilities Authority has earmarked the site, owned by the government, as a potential location for a sewerage facility.

Knockaloe Charity coordinator Alison Jones says it would be sad to see Knockaloe lose its historic value:
