A civil liberties campaigner says government has to learn lessons from a recent data breach - and not shirk responsibility.

It was revealed this morning that the Department of Health and Social Care has fallen victim to the theft of a tape containing sensitive data about two local families.

An investigation by police and the Island's Information Commissioner is underway.

The matter is expected to be raised in Tynwald next week, amid discussion on social services reform and the introduction of centralised citizen databases.
