GNAAS member steps down over future of Isle of Man service

Head of Operations for Cumbria and IOM says he's 'truly sorry'

The Great North Air Ambulance's Head of Operations for Cumbria and the Isle of Man says he's stepped down from his position over the future of the Manx service.

Lee Salmon took to social media to say he's deeply concerned about the future of key services, including but not limited to the Isle of Man air bridge.

He added he can no longer align himself with the direction of the organisation and is stepping away for his own mental health and personal integrity.

Currently GNAAS is in negotiations with Manx Care over who should pay for the service here - which could be stopped at the end of the month if a resolution isn't found.

Mr Salmon said he was 'truly sorry' that he couldn't secure the long-term service the public deserves.

In a statement to Manx Radio, Mr Salmon added the following:

"I do want to be clear that Manx Care has done everything within their power to resolve this issue.

"My decision to resign was not made solely due to the threat to air bridge but was based on wider considerations that I feel I can no longer align with.

"Manx Care has worked incredibly hard to maintain a lifeline service for the Isle of Man, balancing the challenge of delivering world-class care with financial realities.

"Anything worth having is worth fighting for, and cost must always be a consideration. That is why Manx Care is doing its best to align services in a way that ensures both equity of care and value for money—because getting that balance right is not just necessary, but entirely proper.

"Their commitment to finding a solution should be recognised, and I hope they are supported in their efforts to develop a sustainable and effective service for the future of the island residents."
