Three businesses have stopped selling over this year
The Island's largest remaining producer of free-range eggs says the sector has travelled a ‘tough road’ over the past four years.
Gelling's Eggs has a flock of around 6,500 hens which produce 30,000 eggs each week.
Owners Tracey Gelling and Mark Baines say they have sympathy with three other producers who’ve decided to call it a day, so far this year, in light of rising material and transport costs and the ever-present threat of bird flu.
The most recent casualty is Faragher's Eggs in Andreas - owner Jackie Faragher told Manx Radio required investment in the business couldn't guarantee success.
