UCM wants to help people upskill
Adults looking to upskill, improve their employability or access higher education can study for their English and Maths GCSEs for free.
University College Isle of Man will start new courses next month.
The initiative will enable people who didn't attain GCSE, or equivalent, qualifications in key subjects when they were at school to do so without having to worry about the cost.
Principal Jesamine Kelly said: ““English and Maths are core skills that we all need, whether that’s in the workplace or in our personal lives, so we felt it was important for everyone to have the opportunity to attain these qualifications.
“There are various reasons why people didn’t get these GCSEs when they were at school and we would like to remove any financial barriers in the way of gaining those qualifications now.
“Having these qualifications is really useful; they can lead to increased job opportunities, progression into further or higher education, and even, increased confidence for parents and carers looking to support their children with homework.”
UCM will also offer free English courses for non-native speakers.
