Former DHSC minister doesn't share successor's view on healthcare funding

Hooper 'respectfully disagrees' in week strike action was confirmed

The former health and social care minister says he ‘respectfully’ disagrees with his successor that healthcare system funding is not ‘at crisis point’.

Lawrie Hooper, who resigned from the position in October last year, has shared his view on the social media platform X.

He was replaced initially by the chief minister and then by Douglas South MHK Claire Christian.

This week the British Medical Association announced Island doctors would be taking industrial action, for the first time in history, as part of an ongoing row over pay.

They’ll walk out for 48 hours between 22 and 24 January.

Despite this Minister Christian denied funding of the service had reached crisis level but did say ‘honest conversations’ need to be had about the future of health and social care services.
