Firefighters pluck cow from slurry

Heifer up to her neck in bull

A young cow had a lucky escape earlier after becoming trapped in a slurry pit.

The heifer fell into the muck on a farm near Mount Rule this morning.

Fire crews from Douglas attended, and pulled the stricken animal out using a length of rope, with help from the farmer's tractor.

The rescue mission took around an hour.

It's understood the heifer is safe and well - if smelling a little worse than before.
