Fire service begins new year with three-call outs

The road traffic collisions happened 20 minutes apart at 10.42pm and 11.02pm

The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service had a busy start to the year, responding to three call-outs on New Year's Day.

In the afternoon, fire officers were called to assist a farmer whose horse had become trapped after standing on some piping.

A vet attended the scene and sedated the animal, allowing the crew to free the horse.

Later in the evening, two road traffic collisions occurred just 20 minutes apart on the Mountain Road, prompting two further call-outs.

In both incidents, the vehicles had landed on their roofs.

The passengers had managed to free themselves, and paramedics provided first aid to those with minor injuries.

Fire crews have reiterated their reminders for drivers to adjust their driving to the conditions and exercise extra caution when travelling on icy roads.
