Financial support schemes 'need to be easy for businesses to apply for'

Chamber of Commerce reacts to Draft Local Economy Strategy

The Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce says financial support for Island businesses has been 'difficult' to apply for in the past and new, and updated, schemes need to be more accessible.

It follows the publication of the Draft Local Economy Strategy which hopes to ensure the wellbeing of Manx retail, hospitality, and leisure industries for the next decade.

Enterprise Minister Tim Johnston has described it as a 'comprehensive road map designed to empower our local communities and stimulate economic activity'.

The document outlines plans to reopen the Town and Regeneration Scheme, expand the business energy saving scheme, as will the Domestic Event Fund, and set up a new Local Economy Fund for local authorities and not-for-profit businesses.

Rebecca George is the chamber's chief executive:

The Business Agency is carrying out a number of workshops this month, from 6pm until 8pm at the following locations:

  • Thursday, 22 August: Falcon's Nest Hotel, Port Erin
  • Thursday, 5 September: Launchpad Event Space, Douglas
  • Wednesday, 11 September: The Fairway at Peel Golf Club
