Family's hope that teen injured in car crash will return home for birthday

Lockie Kirk's loved ones currently modifying house for homecoming

A teenage boy who suffered severe, and life-changing, head injuries during a car crash 18 months ago has ‘surpassed expectations’ and could be home in time for his birthday.

Lockie Kirk was airlifted to Aintree Hospital for treatment after the incident near Peel in January last year.

After undergoing immediate intensive treatment he’s now being cared for at Derby House Neurological Rehabilitation Service in Liverpool.

More than £33,000 has been raised so far to support the Kirk family with travel and accommodation costs.

The money has enabled his father Dan to take 18-months off work to support Lockie from the UK – whilst his mother has travelled at weekends.

In total Lauren estimates she’s travelled around 17,000 miles by sea and air with her husband covering 40,000 miles in his car and van.

Donations have also paid for accommodation, food, trips out and equipment to make the teenager’s life easier.

And in something of a milestone for the family Dan told Manx Radio they’re hoping to bring Lockie back to the Isle of Man for a break and then permanently when their house has been appropriately modified:
