Failed natural gas plans are 'six years of wasted energy' says chief minister

Alfred Cannan shares future energy plans will be for next administration to decide

The chief minister has described failed plans to extract natural gas from the Island’s seabed as ‘six-years of wasted energy’.

Alfred Cannan says he’s disappointed that Crogga didn’t get to the stage of carrying out a 3D seismic survey and drilling an appraisal well.

The company’s licence to do the work expired on 28 February. 

Crogga claims government put three 'impossible' roadblocks in the way - something the Department of Infrastructure has denied.

The Isle of Man Government is currently seeking engagement with a private company, or suitably qualified government department, for overseeing the drilling of an offshore exploration gas well under a Seaward Production Innovate Licence.

It’s inviting those qualified to oversee the drilling of a well in the Irish Sea.

Mr Cannan told Manx Radio it must be accepted that the Crogga application is finished and Tynwald has voted not to approve any new licence operations:
