Edge: 'Manx Care is completely broken'

MHK calls on chief minister to take more accountability for healthcare body

An Onchan MHK has described Manx Care as ‘completely broken’.

Julie Edge is calling for a change in how the arm’s length healthcare body is structured.

It follows confirmation that a number of services are being cut in order to reduce overspending; this includes sending patients to the UK for non-urgent hospital treatment.

You can find out more HERE.

She says her fellow backbencher MHK’s decision to leak a media release outlining proposed cuts – some of which have been confirmed as now taking place – was ‘critical’ in allowing politicians to get an understanding of the current issues.

But she says it’s left the public with no trust in the health body or the Council of Ministers.

Ms Edge says she believes there has been a ‘complete breakdown’ in the relationship between Manx Care management and the workforce:

Chief Minister Alfred Cannan has told Manx Radio there 'clearly' needs to be a rethink on how government policies, and their impacts, are communicated to the public.
