'Exceptional circumstances' sees many areas closed to public

Access to a number of glens and plantations around the Island is likely to be restricted for some time following the damage caused by Storm Darragh.

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture has closed Archallagan and South Barrule saying these are ‘exceptional circumstances’.

Hundreds of trees were uprooted over the weekend and a full assessment is underway which includes the use of aerial technology.

Archallagan, and its three car parks, has been closed.

South Barrule also remains 'unsafe to visit' and is completely shut to the public

Fallen trees, unstable ground, and blocked paths are said to be presenting significant hazards even in areas that may appear unaffected.

The following glens have also been closed: Lower Dhoon, Colby, Lower Silverdale, Bishopscourt, and Molly Quirks.

Restricted access is in place at Ballaglass and Upper Silverdale.
