Event marks anniversary of city status
A special drone display is being held in Douglas tonight to mark a year since the Island's capital became a city.
On 20 March 2024 Queen Camilla conferred city status, which was granted during the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee in 2022, at a ceremony at City Hall.
Tonight's 15-minute display, choreographed to music, will take place in the skies over Loch Promenade from 7:30pm - spectators have been asked to gather on the walkway there.
A 'no pedestrian zone' will be implemented around the Bottleneck car park, which will be shut from 6pm, and Victoria Street will be closed for the duration of the event.
A ban on the flying of any other drones will be in place in the area between 7:20pm and 8pm.
Douglas City Council has thanked Star Symphony Drone Shows, the Department for Enterprise for 'meeting ancillary costs' and the ELS Group for supporting the event and providing the sound system free of charge.
