Douglas man charged with indecent images offences

30-year-old accused of making more than 50 images

A Douglas man has appeared in court charged with five offences of making indecent photographs of children.

Thomas James Hall, of Peveril Street, is accused of making more than 50 images between 2 January 2020 and 1 March 2023.

The 30-year-old is also facing three charges of theft which allegedly took place at two convenience shops before Christmas.

He’s accused of stealing scratchcards and food from Mace, on Bathurst Street in Douglas, on 23 December and scratchcards from Ballachrink Stores in Onchan a day later.

Bail was granted with conditions imposed regarding his use of electronic devices, and those which connect to the internet, until his next court appearance on 28 March.

He's also prohibited from having contact with anyone under the age of 16 unless supervised.

During a court appearance on 5 September 2023 a further adjournment was requested by Mr Hall's advocate. He'll next appear in court on 31 October.

During a court appearance on 31 October 2023 a further adjournment was granted. Mr Hall will next appear in court on 12 December.

During a court appearance on 9 April 2024 a further adjournment was granted. Mr Hall will next appear in court on 30 April.

During a court appearance on 30 April 2024 a further adjournment was granted. Mr Hall will next appear in court on 14 May.

Update:

During a court appearance on 14 May 2024 a further adjournment was granted. All three theft matters were withdrawn by the prosecutor, who said he: "Doesn't want to distract from more serious matters." Mr Hall will next appear in court for mention on 11 June.

Update:

At Douglas Courthouse on 11 June it was confirmed that committal proceedings - where the case is elevated to the Court of General Gaol Delivery - will take place on 9 July. 

Update: 

At Douglas Courthouse on 8 October Hall pleaded guilty to eight offences of making indecent photographs of children. He will be sentenced at the Court of General Gaol Delivery and will next appear there on 18 October.

Update: 

At Douglas Courthouse on 18 October Hall was told he'll be sentenced on 28 November.
