Right to make it permanent feature says Council Leader
A permanent tribute to those who gave their lives in the First World War has been installed by Douglas Borough Council, ahead of Armistice Day.
The poppy, placed in a prominent place on Douglas Head, has been relaid with a new material so the feature can be displayed all year round.
Support from the Manx Lottery Trust has helped the Council turn the poppy into a permanent fixture - previously workers had to wait for more than 4,000 plants to grow throughout the different seasons.
The tribute will be floodlit with low-level lighting, and a plaque unveiled during a small service to be held in early November.
Council Leader David Christian says the poppy has proved so popular, it was right to make it a permanent feature.
