Douglas Coastguard part of 'dramatic rescue' from side of Snaefell

Tram full of passengers commandeered to help effort

Douglas Coastguard was called out yesterday afternoon (29th June) as part of a joint operation to locate and recover an injured person who'd fallen on the side of Snaefell.

Crews worked alongside the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue and Ambulance services in a joint operation - and even commandeered a tram on route to the summit filled with passengers to transfer rescue personnel and equipment.

The casualty was able to send a What3Words location to help the teams find them in the 'thick mist and drizzle'.

They were then transferred by tram to the waiting ambulance at the Bungalow train station.

The Coastguard has thanked the tram staff and station master who assisted the successful outcome in what they described as 'a dramatic rescue'.
