'Do not drive unless absolutely necessary' advise police

A yellow weather warning's been extended until midday tomorrow

Police are advising people 'not to drive unless absolutely necessary.

The constabulary says snow and ice have made many roads across the island extremely dangerous. The areas most affected include:
  • Santon
  • St Marks
  • Braaid
  • Ballamodha
  • Blackboards

Officers say it's to ensure the safety of people and others.

Anyone who has to leave the house is advised to take extreme caution.

Meanwhile, a yellow weather warning, that was meant to end at 10am today (20 November), has been extended to midday tomorrow.

Forecasters at Ronaldsway Met Office say the isolated hail or sleet showers, with snow over the hills, will continue today and overnight with further accumulations above 800 feet and temporary accumulations to lower levels.

Temperatures are expected to remain close to zero over the hills, only reaching a maximum of 6 Celsius.

There are a number of closures or diversions in place.

ROADS:

Police have closed

  • St Marks between Braaid Roundabout and Orrisdale Road due to the conditions and an incident
  • The entirety of the Ballamodha from Mines Road to Cross Four Ways due to a road traffic collision.
  • The A18 Mountain Road

BUSES:

Bus Vannin says the weather is affecting some bus services:

  • Willaston - all services in this area diverted up Watterson Lane.
  • Birch Hill
  • Avondale Road

RECYCLING CENTRE

  • The Southern Recycling Centre is closed due to hail. A decision on reopening it will be made at midday.
