'Repeated changes' to UK services blamed
The Department of Health and Social Care says it's currently unable to implement a planned gender identity pathway for Manx residents.
Earlier this month, Manx Care was told the transgender community is facing an 'overwhelmingly negative' experience when attempting to access gender-affirming care.
It followed a survey carried out over a 10-week period.
Gender services on the Island are currently provided by specialists in England.
While DHSC says it understands the importance of having a clear and accessible pathway, it says 'repeated changes' to UK policies mean it hasn't been able to contract an agreed service.
It's hoped that NHS England's review into adult Gender Identity Clinics will be completed by March next year, and that in the meantime Manx Care will continue to maintain a waiting list of referrals.
In the meantime, the healthcare provider is said to be offering temporary care pathways for both adults and children.
