Dandara will finish Ballasalla bypass 'in their own time'

DOI Minister questioned about progress with route

The infrastructure minister says the new bypass for Ballasalla will be completed in property developer Dandara's 'own time'.

The route will take traffic from the New Castletown Road via the Rearyt Mie estate, avoiding the main road through the village.

In a Tynwald Question for Written Answer, Douglas North MHK John Wannenburgh has asked Minister Crookall if a completion date is known, and whether there are any mitigations in place for delays.

The minister says one of two phases of the bypass scheme - a private development - has been finished, but there's no end date for the other part yet as 'there's no commercial value for [Dandara] to complete this section until they are ready to do so in their own time and budget'.

Mr Crookall says: 'There are no mitigations for delays in place as this is not a highways scheme and is being constructed under a Section 4 Agreement between the DoI and the developer.'

That means inspections will take place throughout the construction, then a five-year maintenance period will be in place before the bypass is formally adopted by the department.
