Authority to pay £800K for new street lights
Local ratepayers will foot at least some of the bill for regeneration works on Douglas Promenade.
The bulk of the £21 million scheme is yet to begin, with no announcement from central government on its appointment of a private contractor.
But part of the three-year project will be fulfilled by Douglas Borough Council, which has responsibility for some amenities.
Included in the local authority's bill is £800,000 for new street lights.
Council Leader David Christian has welcomed the start of work on the 'shop window of the Isle of Man', which he says is 'desperately in need of a facelift'.
